The last date of making nominations is February 9 while February 10 is the date for scrutiny. The last date for withdrawal of candidates is February 12. The poll date is set for February 27. The election process is to be completed by March 8.

The list of candidates for elections to 107 municipalities, scheduled on February 27, has led to a major tussle in the Trinamool Congress (TMC).It all started with Kalyan Banerjee, senior leader and MP of TMC, openly criticising national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee. Young leaders of the party then started a campaign against Kalyan Banerjee. Although the party disciplinary committee has warned both the sections, the conflict doesn’t seem to be ending.
Amid the chaos, sources say the security of a leader of South 24 Parganas, who is close to Abhishek Banerjee, has been withdrawn. While minister and TMC secretary general Partha Chatterjee and Subrata Bakshi held a press conference on the candidates’ list, a list was uploaded on TMC’s Twitter handle. Chatterjee, however, said that the list was not right, because it did not have the final signature and the actual list was given to district presidents. A section of the party claimed IPAC uploaded the incorrect list.

Trinamool Congress came up with changes in its candidate list late on Friday night and circulated it among the district presidents. The new list of the party has been undersigned by state president Subrata Bakshi and party secretary general Partha Chatterjee. At least 20 per cent of changes have been made to the new list.

Arindam Guin whose name figured in the candidate list of Baidyabati municipality was called up by Chatterjee on Saturday morning and was asked not to contest in adherence to ‘one man one post’ guideline. Guin is the MLA from Champdani in Hooghly.Das will be contesting from ward 15 instead of ward 17 from where he had fought the elections last time.
In ward 21 under Bolpur municipality in Birbhum, MSME minister Chandranath Sinha’s daughter Kuntala Sinha will be contesting while Kamarhati MLA Madan Mitra’s daughter-in-law Meghna has got a ticket from ward 16 of the Kamarhati municipality.Former Khardah MLA Kajal Sinha’s wife Nandita will be contesting from ward 4 of the Khardah municipality.
There was resentment in some areas like Kamarhati, Maheshtala, East Burdwan, Cooch Behar and Kanthi over the candidate list. The INTTUC stopped transport services from ward 1 to 7 in Kamarhati in protest.In other parts, tyres were set on fire as a mark of protest.
Senior TMC leader of North 24-Parganas Jyotipriya Mallick said the Opposition has been organising such protests and putting the blame on TMC. “We are an organised party and everyone has approved the list. There is no resentment among TMC party workers,” Mallick said
The counting of votes for the 108 municipalities across West Bengal that went to polls on February 27 will be held on Wednesday amid accusations of malpractices by the opposition. This year, 8,160 candidates – 2,258 from the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and 2,021 from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) – are in the fray.

The Trinamool Congress Monday made a clean sweep in the civic polls to four municipal corporations in West Bengal — Bidhannagar, Siliguri, Chandernagore and Asansol — as per data available on the State Election Commission’s website.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee congratulated the people saying: “The election was held peacefully. The State Election Commission and administration played important roles to ensure people cast their votes. There was no trouble anywhere during polling.”
Meanwhile, BJP on Monday moved Calcutta High Court demanding Central forces for the remaining Municipalities Polls in West Bengal, scheduled for 27th February. The matter will be likely be heard by the court on Tuesday.
Although largely peaceful, sporadic incidents of violence were reported, with over 71 per cent people turning out to vote. In 2015 when elections to these four civic boards were last held, the TMC had won Asansol, Biddhannagar and Chandannagar civic bodies while the Left-Congress alliance the Siliguri civic body. Polling couldn’t be held in time due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

West Bengal Municipal Election Result 2022 Updates: The Trinamool Congress today swept all the four municipal corporations of Bidhannagar, Siliguri, Chandernagore and Asansol in West Bengal, decimating the opposition parties including the BJP, CPIM and Congress. While the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC retained Bidhannagar corporation by bagging 39 out of 41 seats, the BJP and the CPI(M) failed to open their account. The Congress could win just one seat and an Independent candidate won in one ward. In Chandernagore municipal corporation, the TMC bagged 31 of the 32 seats, while the CPI(M) won in one ward. The TMC also snatched the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) from the CPI(M)-led Left Front. Of the total 47 seats, the TMC bagged 37 wards and the BJP emerged as main opposition by bagging five seats. The Left was relegated to the third position as it managed to win only four seats, and the Congress one. CM Banerjee was quick to announced that party leader Gautam Deb would be the next mayor of Siliguri Municipal Corporation. Deb won by a margin of over 3000 votes. In Asansol, the TMC emerged victorious in 91 of the 106 seats, while the BJP won in seven seats. The Congress won three, Left two and others three.
Altogether 953 candidates were in fray from the municipal corporations of Bidhannagar, Asansol, Siliguri and Chandernagore. As many as 203 candidates were contesting in 41 wards in Bidhannagar, while 200 were in the fray in 47 seats of the Siliguri civic body, as per the SEC website. There are 120 aspirants for 33 wards in Chandernagore, and 430 candidates were contesting in 106 seats in Asansol. The voting for the four municipal corporations was held on February 12. The voting was largely peaceful, barring a few incidents of skirmishes. While over 72.02 per cent voter turnout was recorded in Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation, Siliguri, Asansol and Chandernagore had recorded around 72 per cent turnout.
