Those who always hoped Star Trek: Picard would bring the old gang back together are now finally getting their wish. Paramount has announced Star Trek: Picard season 3 (confirmed as the show’s final season) will include Michael Dorn’s Worf, Gates McFadden’s Beverly Crusher, and LeVar Burton’s Geordi LaForge alongside Frakes, Sirtis and Spiner – the full house of Star Trek: The Next Generation legends. All three newcomers have been attached since the series premiere, but some showed more enthusiasm than others about a potential comeback.

As part of “Star Trek’s” self-celebratory First Contact Day event, Paramount has announced that virtually all the main cast members from “The Next Generation” will be returning for the third and last season of “Star Trek: Picard.” LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Jonathan Frakes, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis and Brent Spiner are set to star alongside Patrick Stewart in the third and final season,” the studio said in a press release issued this morning (April 5).

The entire STAR TREK: PICARD team and I can’t wait for fans to experience this final, high-stakes, starship-bound adventure in season three!”

Burton, Dorn, Frakes, McFadden, Sirtis, and Spiner comprised the core cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation during its seven season run in the 90s. Their characters have made scattered appearances throughout Star Trek: Picard, but Season 3 is truly getting the gang back together.

However, the future was on display in more ways than one this Star Trek Day for Jean-Luc as the newest Picard trailer (watch it above) revealed that the show will be launching its second season in February.

If that wasn’t enough for loyal fans of the former U.S.S. Enterprise captain, today’s Star Trek Day news also included that Picard will be back for a third season.

Unveiled Wednesday in the series’ Star Trek Day slot, Season 3 of Picard is expected to hit the ViacomCBS streamer in early 2023. Knight of the realm Stewart was not at the now-annual Trekverse shindig for the live panel this evening from LA’s Skirball Cultural Center. However, with apologies for his absence, Picard co-star and Seven of Nine herself Jeri Ryan took the stage to unveil the new trailer.

If you take the fact that Paramount+’s Sir Patrick Stewart-starring Star Trek: Picard will be wrapping up its run with its third season and combine it with today being “First Contact Day,” it seems only fitting that some huge “Star Trek” news would break the internet. Fans of Star Trek: The Next Generation can look forward to a reunion next season with Stewart’s ST: TNG co-stars LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Jonathan Frakes, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis, and Brent Spiner set to join the cast.

Star Trek.com confirmed in January 2022 that the Star Trek: Picard season 2 release date is Thursday March 3, 2022. New instalments of the 10-episode run will be available on Paramount Plus every week and – as with season 1 – the show will stream on Amazon Prime Video the following day.
