The Odisha government announced a Rs 100-crore Urban Wage Employment Initiative which, it claims, will generate employment for the urban poor in 114 urban local bodies.The initiative, announced by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s office, is aimed at around 4.5 lakh families and will run from April to September.With cooperation of Mission Shakti groups, the programme will be implemented from this month till September this year.
The beneficiaries will receive their payment by the end of each week. Under the programme, developmental works such as cleaning of drains, remediation of water bodies, remodelling of playgrounds and parks, construction of public toilets will be undertaken. Local artists will also be employed for wall painting and mural paintings.

Under this initiative, various labour oriented projects such as desilting of drains, removal of wastages, digging up and resurrection of water bodies, renovation of parks, playgrounds and other open spaces, plantation drives, toilet construction, beautification of town areas and removal of construction debris will be taken up, the notification from CMO.In this article, we will also share with you all the specifications which are necessary for applying for the Odisha Urban Wage Employment Scheme.

Storm Water Drainage: Solid refuse passing into drainage reduces runoff capacity as well as has environmental impacts downstream, increasing the frequency of flooding in cities.
Activities to be undertaken:
(a) Pre – monsoon de-silting of drains, removal of silt and deposits in low-lying areas.
(b) Installing steel grills/screen/mesh at the confluence/outfall points of the drainage channels to filter out solid waste.
(c) Ensuring drains with covers without any gaps to avoid accidents.

The Government of Odisha had likewise declared a bundle of Rs 2,200 crore for the more unfortunate areas of the state including Rs 1,000 money help to every one of the 94 lakh recipients under the Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department and Rs 1500 to every one of the 22 lakh development labourers. Plus, money related help of Rs 3,000 was declared for every one of the 65,000 road merchants across 114 urban neighbourhood bodies to manage the COVID-19 lockdown.
