Whether this is your first time thinking about bringing art, or you’re a long-time veteran of the process, please take the time to read this and share it with your crew. There are important changes you need to know before registering an art project this year.

There have been several installation policy changes since the last time we gathered on playa; these include: updates to our mobile art guidelines, clarifications about prefabricated structures on playa, updated sound guidelines, and more. ny annual event that skipped a year because of COVID-19, or even had to skip two years, knows that they can make the tickets substantially more expensive the next time they finally do iterate on this festival. There is so much pent-up demand that fans will happily pay a premium to attend their favorite event’s return.

But Burning Man fans will be paying a full $100 price increase to return to their beloved event. “The Main Sale will take place in late March,” the Burning Man Project said in their latest announcement. “Tickets will be $575.” That sale is Wednesday, March 30, at 12 Noon PT. and with registration March 23 – March 25.

The past two seasons without Black Rock City have provided Burning Man Project time to reflect and assess. This pause in the event cycle, challenging as it’s been, has been an opportunity to focus our intentions; you will see some of this in our 2022 ticketing strategy. We’re excited to share news of the updated ticket sale design and recalibration, as well as the renaming of some existing programs to better reflect the larger social purpose they serve within the community.

Each year, the ticketing strategy is designed in service of the community as a whole, with each sale and program built for a specific facet of the community. Like the 10 Principles of Burning Man, each sale and program exists in relation to the others, and all work together holistically to support the community ecosystem. It is equal parts practical and aspirational.

The Art Installation Questionnaire to register your art for placement on the open playa in Black Rock City is open from February 23 through June 1, 2022.

REMINDER: Register Early! Traditionally, more than half of playa art is registered in the last few days (or even hours) before the deadline. Please don’t wait. Our artist liaisons do their best to speak with everyone during the registration period, but we’re a small team and people who register on the last day are the last to be contacted.
